My writing stems from an intense interest in the natural world - the desire to experience cultures, better the human condition, pursue adventure and promote environmentalism. I write stories that speak to a broad social spectrum, both culturally and economically, with the idea that a story written for the masses is much more useful than one that tries to sound clever. Overall, my stories produce results by encouraging individuals to think, dream, move beyond their personal boundaries and do something to enhance both their own lives and the world.

My stories evolve from a lifetime of pursuing odd things and searching out unique adventures. Try this - attempt to kayak a wild river canyon in flood, solo. Most of the time it's just a catfish rippled trickle that sleeps its way past my aunt's farm. After a deeper look, I found it flows 200 kilometers through one of the most remote and unexplored areas of the western United States, an area threatened by a military firing range. Twenty miles in and the flood waters churned the trickle into big whitewater that had my nerves on a trembling line.
I escaped by hiking out through the desert, shuttling my gear and boat to a distant highway that almost no one travels. Imagine driving through the bone dry desert right at sunset and coming upon a hitchhiker sitting on a kayak. That's me.
My writing and photography continues to be the key that opens any door in the world. It's the ticket if I want to bicycle across Bhutan, spend months writing a guidebook to my favorite backcountry skiing area or draw attention to sustainable development in a Nepalese village. I want to live the story and then tell others about what I saw and what I learned.
I specialize in adventure travel, environmental issues, sustainable travel, adventure product development, social issues, travel guidebooks and business writing. I guarantee professional, accurate, and tightly-edited pieces that match your needs.
